Pet Turf
Recently our family made the decision to put Pet Turf in our backyard. It wasn’t an easy decision and there was a lot to consider. In today’s Focused Dog blog I’d like to pass along some of the things we learned along the way. I hope it’s helpful to you!
Pros
1. Here in California we’re going through a water shortage, and one big plus is the water savings.
2. Natural grass is difficult to keep looking good when you have pets. With pet turf you can look forward to a green lawn all year-long, with no dead-spots.
3. Pet turf has better drainage than the typical artificial turf on the market, which is an important consideration if your dog’s eliminate on it.
4. With Pet Turf there is no longer a need to mow, fertilize, or replace sod. This is a time saver and over the years can be friendly to your pocketbook.
5. Dogs are tough on natural grass and artificial turf but Pet turf has been designed to take the abuse.
6. Pet Turf with the appropriate coated sand can prevent unwanted odors.
Cons
1. Though Pet Turf is designed to be cooler than the typical artificial turfs on the market it can still get hot. To help it stay cool you can hose it off occasionally or plant a tree or two to provide shade.
2. Pet Turf is expensive. The Turf itself is expensive as is the labor to install it. If you’re a DIY kind of person that can help! Again, I think it’s important to think of what you’ll save in the long run too! (Water bill, Lawn care, etc.)
